Overview

Phinda Private Game Reserve is an enchanting and colourful park nestled in at the confluence of seven entirely distinct ecosystems – home to 23 000 hectares of exclusive, lodge-bearing natural habitat. The reserve itself is crammed into the rich land lying between the Mkuze Game Reserve and the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park (a World Heritage Site), as well as being within a sea mist’s reach of the Indian Ocean coastline. This yields an amazing rainfall pattern, producing conditions perfect for lush, grassy woodland scenes, broad, sweeping mountain ranges with impressive coverage, and some of the most exciting marine wildlife you’re likely to spot anywhere.

Bringing life to the concept of “a room with a view”, Mountain Lodge is both organic and impressive in its positioning – looming over the stretched-out South African Bushveld, and flanked by the gigantic Ubombo Mountains, it is, to say the least, a dramatic mountain retreat. Whether lazing in your room, or taking some time off in one of the stunning guest areas, soaking in the azure skies, or heading out into the nearby bush to spot big game, guests of any persuasion are bound to find the charm and beauty of the Phinda Mountain Lodge undeniable.

With gorgeous Zululand bushveld supplying the lodge’s thematic tone, and calm, paved pathways snaking down from the main guest areas along the mountainside and into the suite area, this contemporary lodge, with its ethnic decorative counterpoint, is a breathtaking safari in the making.

Phinda Mountain Lodge suites are complete with en-suite bathrooms, heating, fans and air conditioning, a personal bar, mosquito netting, hair dryers, and private decks.

Wildlife

Phinda Private Game Reserve’s unique meeting of riverine and rare sand forest habitats is home to a wide selection of wildlife, including lion, giraffe, white and black rhino, antelope, elephants, leopard,buffalo, cheetah, and wildebeest, as well as 415 bird species.

Children
Children are welcome at Phinda Mountain Lodge.
Children 0-5 years of age, sharing with 1 or 2 adults stay free of charge .
Children 6 -16 years of age, sharing with 1 or 2 adults pay 50% of adult rate .
Children 0-5 years of age are not permitted on game drives or nature walks .
Children 6-12 years of age are permitted on game drives at Lodge Manager’s discretion .
Childminders are available but must be booked on the day of arrival.

Directions

Self-dive instructions:
Take the N2 Freeway northbound from Durban, toward Stanger, crossing over the Tugela River continuing towards Empangeni / Richards Bay.Staying on the N2, pass the towns of Kwambonambi and Mtubatuba, until you reach Hluhluwe,approximately 10km past the Hluhluwe off-ramp, you take the ‘Phinda’ Off-ramp.At the top of the fly-off, turn right onto the bridge over the N2,At the T-junction, turn left following the Phinda signboard.
Continue along the gravel road for approximately 4 km ,cross over a Railway line and turn right at the fork immediately thereafter.Continue for approximately 3.5km to the Munyawana Game Reserve gate.
