Imbalala Zambezi Safari Lodge nestles in a riverine fringe within the Matetsi private concession area – just 80 kilometres from Victoria Falls. The 5 000 acre concession borders the Chobe Forest Reserve, is renowned for its huge elephant population, and has 14 kilometres of Zambezi River frontage.

The intimate, unpretentious lodge is sited near the river bank on a small hilltop, close to Zimbabwe’s junction with Botswana, Namibia and Zambia. Imbabala affords guests a private, peaceful getaway, with flawless service.

Accommodation

The exclusive Imbabala Zambezi Safari Lodge offers just nine luxurious stone and thatch lodges, accommodating a maximum of twenty guests. The lodges are positioned to ensure privacy, and have expansive verandahs offering panoramic views of the mighty Zambezi. Each lodge is individually decorated and has an opulent en-suite bathroom. One of the lodges is a four-sleeper – perfect for families.

Wildlife

Imbabala Lodge game drives provide fantastic wildlife sightings including lion, wild dog, waterbuck, buffalo, giraffe, eland, roan, and kudu. On night drives, the nocturnal aardvark and aardwolf make for special sightings. Herds of up to 1 500 elephants have been seen on the plains below the lodge. Elephant are also often seen crossing the river to feed on the lush growth on one of the many islands. Hippo pods and large Nile crocodiles are also common here and are usually sighted on river trips. Lucky guests may spot clawless otters frolicking in the river.

The lodge offers some of the best bird-watching on the upper Zambezi. Over 420 species have been recorded, which include riverine, forest and inland dwellers. Specialities include the Long-toed plover, Western banded snake eagle and Swamp bou bou.

Children:
Children over the age of 7 are most welcome at Imbabala. Children under the age of 7 will be accommodated on request only. As Imbabala is situated in a wilderness area and the lodge is unfenced, it is imperative that all children should be under the supervision of their parents or a guardian at all times.
