Overview

Location: South Africa–>Western Cape–>Cape Town
Accommodation Type: Hotel
Comfort Level: Luxury

Good For: Couple/Romantic, Family |

One of Cape Town’s best-loved hotels, the Cape Grace sits on a private quay at the heart of the V&A Waterfront. With an international yacht marina to one side and a working harbour on the other, the Cape Grace balances its peaceful water’s edge feel with the convenience of staying a mere 10-minute stroll from the Waterfront’s restaurants, shops, buskers and buzz. Add to this the hotel’s postcard-perfect Table Mountain views, and you really couldn’t ask for a better location!

A member of “The Leading Hotels of The World”, the Cape Grace is certainly no cookie-cutter hotel. Each of the 120 rooms has been individually decorated, there are magnificent hand-painted murals, custom-made art pieces by local artists, and chandeliers hung with playful details such as china tea cups and stings of pearls. As for the service, it’s professional without being stuffy, and the staff really make you feel welcome and even greet you by name – an impressive feat for a hotel of this size.

When you’re not out and about exploring Cape Town, there’s an outdoor heated pool lined with sun loungers, and a top-floor spa with Table Mountain views. You can make yourself comfortable at the couch-filled Bascule Bar – home to over 500 whiskies and an impressive selection of Cape wines – or have dinner at the multi award-winning Signal restaurant which serves up innovative Cape cuisine with tempting dishes including babotie-spiced springbok and ostrich fillet.

Accommodation

The Cape Grace has 120 rooms and suites, each with French doors opening onto views of either the Waterfront’s working harbour or the luxury yacht marina framed by flat-topped Table Mountain.

Each room is individually decorated and has a hand-printed bedspread and silk curtains, beautiful flower arrangements and a personal selection of books and newspapers. Everything in the rooms is of the highest quality – from the 600-thread-count linen and luxurious Charlotte Rhys bath products to the mini bar stocked with deli snacks. As for modern conveniences, you won’t be technology starved with your flat-screen HDTV, iPod docking stations and free WiFi.

Those travelling with children can opt for rooms with interleading doors or one of the two- or three-bedroom suites. These suites are wonderfully spacious and have a separate lounge and dining area, fully-equipped kitchen and sizeable balcony – perfect for those wanting to make the most of their in-room downtime. And if your kids are with you, they’ll no doubt be thrilled to discover that each suite even has an Xbox 360 as part of its entertainment system.
