Situated in the heart of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, which makes up the western boarder of the Kruger National Park. Without fences inhibiting the free movement of game between the reserves, Timbavati becomes part of a vast unspoilt natural wilderness area that lies within the Greater Kruger National Park.

Sitting majestically on the banks of a dry river bed, Kambaku River Sands entices the guest to sit back and relax. Kambaku (Solitary Bull elephant), takes its name from one of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ tuskers who roamed the Kruger Park for the greater part of the last century. These elephant were renowned for their impressive tusks – having at least one tusk with the estimated weight of over 60kg.

This unfenced camp is perfectly situated on a perennial river with continuous free flowing movement of game both big and small through the camp.

Wildlife

Being unfenced, the camp allows for free movement of game through the lodge.  Game drives provide the ideal opportunity to track down the Big 5 and more. We offer bush walks with the space to explore the smaller gems of the bush, and the time in camp during the heat of the day, to observe relaxed animal behaviour from the peace and quiet of your own personal deck.

Game drives are in an uncovered vehicle – allowing for excellent photographic opportunities, with experienced rangers passionate about the bush.
