Midway between the airport and Victoria Falls village lies the intimate Gorges Lodge. Its spectacular site at the summit of the precipitous 200 metre high Batoka Gorge ensures guests breathtaking views.   The lodge is close enough to enjoy the Victoria Falls and the multitude of activities offered there, yet far enough to assure seclusion and tranquillity. The surrounding pristine riverine vegetation is inhabited by a variety of birds and animals, allowing guests superb wildlife viewing. Personalised service and luxurious comfort, in a setting with unrivalled views of the gorge and the mighty Zambezi below, ensure Gorges Lodge guests an unforgettable getaway.

Accommodation

Gorges Lodge offers ten beautiful stone and thatch cottages, sited at the edge of the Batoka Gorge. Four of the cottages are double-storeys, with upper level stilted decks that span over the edge of the gorge. The bedroom is upstairs, while the full bathroom and dressing room are located on the lower level. The six single storey cottages have verandahs with glorious gorge views. All the cottages are set in private landscaped gardens, and are beautifully furnished with Oregon pine and cheerful soft furnishings. Guests are lulled to sleep by the soothing sounds of the gently rushing Zambezi.

Wildlife

Gorges Lodge is home to a spectacular array of butterflies and wild flora. Tame bushbuck, mopane squirrels, rock hyrax, baboons, and vervet monkeys roam freely across the grounds.

The main wildlife draw card of the lodge is the superb birdlife. The cliffs provide perfect nesting sites for raptors, a speciality of the lodge. Guests frequently sight Black eagles, Augur buzzards, Brown eagles and Lanner falcons soaring along the updraughts created by the gorge. Peregrines and the rare and elusive Taita falcon are regularly seen. At night, Bat hawks hunt amongst the cottages, swooping up from beneath the radar of the bats. A resident pair of Black eagles nest opposite the lodge, and guests can witness these regal birds hunting in the garden several times a day. Smaller gems include the Emerald cuckoo, waxbills, and Fire finches.

Children:
Children under the age of 7 are only allowed by special arrangement and providing parents sign a disclaimer. This is subject to restrictions, particularly to do with private dining options and a separate vehicle for game drives and is at the sole discretion of lodge management. Children aged 12 and below pay 50% and must share with an adult. Up to 2 children may share with an adult.

Directions

By Road:

When driving from Victoria Falls International Airport, you drive out of the airport parking lot and turn left then follow the signs to Victoria Falls Town. At about 11km on the right hand side is a sign, to the Gorge Lodge. Follow the road to another sign that says Gorges Lodge. You then follow a sign, which directs you to the lodge gate and reception.
