Overview

Lukimbi Safari Lodge is situated in a private concession area of the southern Kruger National Park. Overlooking a dry riverbed and waterhole, this sophisticated African-styled 5 star lodge offers outstanding game viewing in a spectacular wilderness setting. Lukimbi’s 15 000 hectares borders three river systems, ensuring a huge diversity of wildlife, including the Big Five.

Spectacular sunsets rim the seemingly endless horizon before twinkling stars fill the black sky, and the stillness is broken only by the sounds of the wild. Unwind in this pristine setting, and experience the romance of the bushveld in sumptuous comfort.

Children’s Program
All children love to swim: for the younger ones there is a special shallow kids pool. The older ones will enjoy the water flowing across the rocks, until it drops into a waterfall. There they can enjoy the adventure of sitting behind the cascading water. Then there is the main area and if they are lucky, they will be able to watch elephants drinking from the pools in the river bed nearby.

Accommodation

Lukimbi Safari Lodge offers 14 classic spacious suites, each with an en-suite bathroom and additional outdoor shower. In addition, 2 ultra-luxurious premier suites, they have a separate bedroom; dining area; larger lounge; main bathroom with huge ‘shareable’ bath; an inside and outside shower; a second bathroom; and private pool with wooden deck, where elephants quite often stop by for a drink. The African inspired décor incorporates the spirit of local myths and legends and reflects the surrounding bush. Each artistically decorated suite has a lounge area, which opens onto a secluded private deck – an ideal spot from which to sip a sundowner while watching the animals drift across the plains to the river to slake their thirst, and listening to the chatter of the myriad of birds. Two of the suites offer private splash pools, a dining room, and additional bathroom.

Wildlife

The Lukimbi concession area provides the ideal habitat for large herds of buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and other plains animals. Elephants roam through the concession, and frequently visit the lodge’s pool. The pans offer frequent sightings of white rhino, whilst the more elusive black rhino can be found in the more thickly wooded areas.
Guests frequently sight the Big Five during their stay, along with cheetah, hippo, wild dog and a large variety of antelope. There are regular sightings of rare species, such as the roan antelope, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest and wild dog. Evening game drives reveal the more rarely seen nocturnal creatures, such as porcupine, aardwolf, genet, serval, white tailed mongoose, civet and brown hyena.
Birdlife is prolific with over 450 species recorded. Raptor sightings include Martial, Tawny and Fish Eagles as well as Steppe Buzzards. Southern Ground Hornbills have nesting sites close to the lodge, and iridescently plumaged birds, such as the Lilac-breasted roller, Southern Carmine Bee-eaters, and Malachite kingfishers are often sighted.
