Overview

Location: Botswana–>Okavango Delta
Accommodation Type: Lodge

Good For: Solo, Couple/Romantic |

In the eastern section of the vast Okavango Delta, lies Moremi Game Reserve, a region of starting contrasts – a waterless centre of savannah and dry woodland surrounded by lily-filled waterways, scattered flood plains, lagoons, riverine forest and palm fringed islands. Chief Island is one of these islands, and considered as having the finest game-viewing in Southern Africa.

Consistently rated by Condé Nast Traveller as one of the top safari destinations in Botswana, Chief’s offers guests an authentic yet luxurious African safari. Shaded by jackalberry trees, and fringed by papyrus banks, Chief’s has been skilfully integrated into the landscape enabling guests to view game from the comfort of camp.

The elegant Chief’s Camp offers superb service, fine cuisine, luxurious accommodation and superb opportunities to view the Big Five, all in splendid seclusion.

Accommodation

Chief’s Camp offers twelve luxurious thatched bush pavilions in a shady jackalberry and sausage tree woodland. Earthy tones and natural fibres imbue the secluded units with a distinctly African ambience. The pavilions offer four poster beds, swathed in mosquito netting, a spacious lounge area and both indoor and outdoor showers. Hammocks and deck chairs on the private, expansive timber decks afford guests a comfortable spot from which to absorb the sights and sounds of the African bush.

Wildlife

Large numbers of plains game and predators are found throughout the year. After the recent introduction of rhino to this concession, the area is home to the Big Five. Predators abound, and include several lion prides, leopards, cheetah, hyena, and the rare and endangered Wild dog.

Large herds of elephant and buffalo, frequent the area. Blue wildebeest, steenbok, giraffe, greater kudu, impala, Burchell’s zebra and tsessebe abound, and the region’s flood levels attract the much-sought after water-dwelling antelope species such as sitatunga and red lechwe.

The area is home to over 400 species of birds, including the African fish eagle, Bateleur, Crested and Wattled cranes, Black-tailed godwit, Sacred ibis, Green pigeon and the rare and elusive Pel’s fishing owl.
