Itinerary

Day 1: Johannesburg to Tydon Safari Camp – Greater Kruger Park

This adventure-filled 5-day Kruger Park and Sabi Sand Safari starts with collection from the Johannesburg International Airport, or your accommodation in the area (or in Nelspruit).

Your journey takes you to Tydon Safari Camp, located just outside the famous Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve, at the Shaw’s Gate entrance.

Freshen up after check-in, before we head into the Sabi Sand Game Reserve on our thrilling sunset game drive. The Sabi Sand Private Reserve is famous for offering outstanding leopard encounters and sightings of other wild animals at close range.

Our sunset to evening game viewing drive is a great opportunity to spot some of the nocturnal wildlife found in the area. We arrive back at Tydon Camp after dark to be welcomed by a campfire in the outdoor boma area.

Enjoy some drinks as you sit back around the campfire before dinner. The evening meal is served in the boma beneath starry skies, or in the thatched dining area.

After dinner you can laze beside the glowing campfire and get an early night, before our first full day exploring the African bush.

Dinner Included

Day 2: Kruger Park Game Drives

Up bright and early this morning to be met by the untamed bush in the golden morning light.

Morning coffee/tea is enjoyed in the dining area before heading into Kruger National Park, the leading safari destination in South Africa. Our 4×4 game drives follow the best routes for wildlife sightings, improving your chances of sighting the Big Five animals of Africa and the abundant wildlife of Kruger.

After your morning game driver you will head back to Tydon Safari Camp  tasty brunch.

Free time can be spent swimming in the pool, exploring the campgrounds or relaxing on the viewing deck amongst indigenous trees during the heat of the day.

Between 12:30pm and 2:00pm a light lunch is served in the dining area at camp before embarking on a rewarding game drive in Kruger National Park.

Experienced and knowledgeable guides are happy to answer questions on the game drives, ensuring that you gain as much insight into Kruger and Sabi Sand as possible.

Returning to the safari camp pre-dinner drinks will be served around the campfire, followed by a well-prepared dinner. Kick back and relax under the canopy of stars, recounting the adventures of your day in the African bush, or head to your comfortable tented room for a good night’s rest.

Day 3: Sabi Sand Game Walk & Safari Drive

The early morning hours are ideal for game viewing, as this is when many animals are most active.

After a refreshing tea or coffee at camp, you will set off on a morning game-viewing walk in Sabi Sand Reserve.

The exhilarating guided walk takes you deep into the bush, where chance wildlife encounters include coming face-to-face with a lion pride, a herd of elephants and other wildlife – an experience that is sure to get your adrenaline levels up.

The game walk in Sabi Sand is ideal for becoming aware of the finer details of the African bushveld and its variety of creatures, big and small. We spend time tracking wild animals and getting to know the wilderness more intimately than is possible on game viewing drives.

After our exciting game walk, we return to Tydon Camp for a scrumptious mid-morning breakfast.

A fresh lunch is served in the main dining area of the safari camp between 12:30pm and 2:00pm. After lunch there is some more free time, before embarking on the 4:00pm Sabi Sand game drive.

Sabi Sand Game Reserve is known for its remarkable sightings of the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo and rhino, in addition to leopard. We usually get up close to the wildlife on our game drives, giving you excellent chances to take great photographs in the African bush.

Returning to camp after sunset, we find chilled beverages waiting in the boma, where the campfire is already going. Share a juicy meal in the Boma under the stars, or in the dining area. Then sit back and take in the night sounds of the untamed bush.

Wildlife

Kruger National Park

South Africa’s biggest game reserve and home to more than 146 mammals and 500 bird species.

Many first-time visitors long to see Africa’s Big 5, which certainly is possible in the Kruger Park with its estimated 1,500 lion, 12,000 elephant, 2,500 buffalo, 1,000 leopard and 5,000 rhino (both black and white). However, don’t make seeing the Big 5 your only priority as there are plenty of other fascinating animals including cheetah, hippo, giraffe, zebra, warthog, many antelope species, spotted hyena and even the endangered wild dog.

Sabi Sand Game Reserve

Sabi Sand Game Reserve is known for its remarkable sightings of the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo and rhino, in addition to leopard. We usually get up close to the wildlife on our game drives, giving you excellent chances to take great photographs in the African bush.
