Itinerary

Day 1: Kruger National Park

We depart from Johannesburg between 06h00 – 08h00 to allow for various collection points. (**Safari Pick up’s and drop off’s available from the following destinations: Johannesburg, Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, Skukuza, prices will vary**).

After settling in to your accommodations, you go out on your first game drive which is a SAN PARKS sunset drive. A sunset drive affords you the opportunity to see nocturnal animals that are more active at night and the Park’s rangers are allowed to return after the normal gate closing times. Note that these drives take place in one of the Kruger Park’s vehicles with a Park’s ranger. This is not a private game drive and there may be other guests on this drive. (Children under 6 years of age are not permitted on open vehicle drives.)

Dinner is a three course meal, served al fresco at your base camp. Wine is served with dinner but guests are welcome to bring along additional / alternative drinks which can be purchased at the shop.

Day 2-5: Game drives and activities in the Park

Safaris are all about early mornings, getting out there and seeing animals! The time you go on your Game Drive varies according to the seasons and camp gate opening times. Tea and cofffee is served with muffins and fruit before departing on the Game Drive which will take approximately 3-4 hours. Your guide has an intimate knowledge of the park, which contributes a great deal towards brilliant sightings!
On returning to camp, brunch will be ready.

You then have time to enjoy a swim, catch up on some sleep, visit the park shop which includes African curios, general food items and drinks, take a walk around the camp, or simply relax! Be sure to bring along your binoculars!

After a siesta we set off on the afternoon Kruger Park game drive. We conduct all our game drives in specially adapted 4×4 open game drive vehicles to allow you the best possible vantage point.

Share African safari stories at the camp fire under the stars after a scrumptious dinner served at camp.
(Breakfast & Dinner included)

Day 6

The final day of your Kruger Park Safari will be your last chance to see the Big Five Animals that have eluded you thus far. After breakfast you will be transferred to your chosen destination (Johannesburg, Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, Skukuza)

Optional Excursion (free of charge)

An opitional excursion (free of charge) is offered to visit select attractions along the Panorama Route.  You will enjoy breakfast in camp at 07h30, depart from camp at 08h15 and visit attractions such as the Blyde River Canyon, Three Rondavels, Lisbon Waterfalls and God’s Window. Stop in one of the small towns en-route for lunch (lunch is excluded from the price).  Arrive back at camp between 17h00 and 18h00. This excursion is available free of charge, replaces your game drives for the day and will be co-ordinated while you are on safari. (Kindly note that this excursion is not available on the first or last day of your Safari due to time constrictions)

Accommodation

Skukuza is the headquarters of the Kruger Park and has become a little town in the middle of the bush. Its 1400 residents and thousands of daily visitors enjoy wonderful views through Sycamore Figs and Natal Mahoganies. Skukuza Rest Camp is situated on the southern banks of the Sabie River. The camp is well foliaged and there are some lofty trees along the river’s edge. Activities and facilities are diverse, as are the animals and plants found both within the camp and in the surrounding areas. It features a variety of accommodation options such as camp sites, 21 furnished safari tents, semi luxury bungalows, cottages and 4 guesthouses. It also features a doctor, a shop with an impressive bronze statue outside, a bank, a post office, a library, a museum, a restaurant and a cafeteria with decks that overlook the river.

Accommodation consists of twin bed (2 single beds), air conditioned, ensuite accommodation. There are no double beds available in this accommodation category. Family or 3 bed chalets are available on request. Please discuss your requirements with your consultant. Linen, towels and soap are provided. Your chalet does have a few power points, but adapters are not included. Your chalet does not include a safe, but you do have a key to lock your chalet when leaving. Hairdryer and mosquito nets are not included. We find that mosquitoes are not a problem in your chalet at night, as the doors and windows have mosquito meshing which prevents mosquitoes from entering your chalet, if they are kept closed. There are no Wi-Fi facilities at your chalet. The solution to this would be to purchase “pay as you go” data for a local sim card, when you arrive in South Africa. Vodacom seems to have the best coverage in the Kruger Park, although it is patchy and not always reliable.

Classic Kruger Safaris make use of twin bed (2 single beds), air conditioned, ensuite accommodation. There are no double beds available in this accommodation category. Family or 3 bed chalets are available on request. Please discuss your requirements with your consultant. Linen, towels and soap are provided.

It is important to note that this is not a private safari and more than likely there will be other guests joining you on the game drive vehicles, air-conditioned mini bus transfer vehicles as well as in the dining facility.

Please note that sunset game drive times are subject to change and availability on the day. These drives are conducted by SAN PARKS, by one of their rangers and in one of their vehicles. There will most likely be other guests on this drive. Children under 6 years of age are not allowed on SAN Parks open game drive vehicles.

Although children are welcome on safaris, we reserve the right not to allow younger children on normal game drives. This will be entirely up to the guide’s discretion and will be in order to ensure a pleasurable game drive for all guests (including the parents). Should this be the case, a bush bumble (kiddies game drive) will be conducted after the normal game drive, especially for the kids. Babysitting is not offered and as such one of the parents will have to stay behind to watch the children. Private game drives for families can be arranged at an extra charge.

Guests flying out of OR Tambo Airport on the last day are reminded to not book any flights earlier than 19h00 (domestic) or 20h00 (international) in order to allow for time to get to the airport. We recommend that you rather stay over in Johannesburg if possible. Since we cannot guarantee the arrival time in Johannesburg on the last day we will not be held responsible for reimbursements of flight tickets, should we arrive later than expected. Guests flying out of Nelspruit on the last day may, depending on their flight details, not have enough time to see the Panorama Route. Private transfers for guests with early flights can be arranged in advance at an extra charge.
