Overview

Sabi Sands Game Reserve, regarded by many as the “birthplace” of sustainable wilderness tourism and development in Sub-Saharan Africa, is understood by guests and staff to be a place of wilderness, wildlife and adventure. Wildlife

On a drive through the Lion Sands Game Reserve, guests are likely to spot roaming groups of lions and cheetahs, giraffe, buffalo, wild dog, wildebeest, kudu, hyena, hippo, and crocodile, as well as around 350 different species of bird.

• Drive along dirt road for 4km

• At T junction turn right and drive for 4km to Sabi Sand Gate

• Drive straight as signposted to Lion Sands Game Reserve

• After 2km turn right at sign. Drive straight following signs to either River Lodge or Ivory Lodge

• A recommended option is the romantic Rovos Rail Safari from Pretoria to Komatipoort, with transfers to Skukuza by bus.

• Our open Land Rovers will collect and transfer the guests from Skukuza airport to Lion Sands.

Lion Sands Narina Lodge is located among a canopy of 100 year old trees overlooking the Sabie River within the world famous Kruger National Park, the style of Narina is that of a luxurious treehouse, where the main areas link to the 9 private Suites via raised wooden walkways. The thick green foliage beneath the overhanging roof of trees has a particular sound to it.

Lion Sands Kruger National Park is one of only seven private concessions in the Kruger National Park. A 5,000 hectare (12,500 acre) private concession with the highest concentration of Black Rhino (Diceros bicornis) in South Africa. It is the only private reserve with access to both the Sabie and Sand rivers enhancing diversity of game viewing; 5 minutes from Skukuza airport. Access to all areas of historical significance in the Kruger National Park. Access to the greater Kruger National Park if guests request to extend their safari experience beyond the concession territory.

Wildlife

The preserved plains of the Sabi Sands and the Kruger National Park hold one of highest concentrations of game per hectare on the planet. This, coupled with ethical and responsible conservation management, have resulted in animals which are highly habituated to human presence. The landrovers pose no threat, and guests on game drives are able to get really close to countless animal species (including predators, general game, reptiles, insects, and birds-a-plenty).

Directions

•Take the N12/N4 highway from the Gauteng region towards Emalahleni (formerly known as Witbank)/ Middelburg and further on to Mbombela (formerly known as Nelspruit)
•On arrival into Mbombela, follow the R40 from Mbombela through to White River and on to Hazyview
• At the T-junction between Kiepersol and Hazyview, turn left onto the R538 which will take you into the town of Hazyview
• At the 2nd traffic lights with a shopping centre on the right, turn right onto the R536 towards Paul Kruger Gate (KrugerNational Park)
• Enter Kruger National Park at Paul Kruger Gate, announcing yourselves as guests of Lion Sands & follow the sign to either
• Continue on the road to Skukuza Rest Camp, turn left on the first gravel road on your left which is approximately 8 km/5 miles from Kruger main gate, the sign post will read Narina 4km. Continue on this road for 2km and turn left at the first junction, the signpost will read “Narina 2km“, continue on the gravel road until you reach Narina Lodge reception

Ivory Lodge compises of 8 Single Villas and 1 Double-Suite Villa.

All Villas occupy an elevated positions, with most overlooking the Sabi River.

Lodge facilities include a lounge, dining and relaxation space, with an expansive wooden deck overlooking the Sabie River, art gallery and an Africology luxury spa and gym. Each Single unit has a mast bedroom with bathroom en-suite, double volume wardrobe area, outdoor shower in an indigenous garden forest, private lounge area with fireplace, a private pool & expansive viewing deck, as well as a covered patio.

Fish Eagle Villa:

The exclusive Fish Eagle Villa is the ‘pièce de résistance’ of Ivory Lodge. Booked on an exclusive basis, The Villa comes with its own private landrover, as well as separate access for game drives.

Although privacy and exclusivity are assured, visitors are welcome to use the facilities within Ivory Lodge for their enjoyment including the lounge, dining and relaxation space; the Gallery (exclusive art pieces from celebrated South African artists); and the spectacular wooden deck overlooking the Sabie River.

The Double-Suite Fish Eagle Villa is comprised of two private Single Suites, connected by an entrance hall, lounge and study.
