This twenty day Southern African adventure is perfect for solo travellers, groups of friends, couples, wildlife and photography enthusiasts and those with an adventurous nature.

Your journey will take you from natural wonder to natural wonder. This camping tour will embark from Cape Town and culminate at the Victoria Falls – experiencing and taking in all the sights, wildlife, stunning landscapes and cultures in between.

Itinerary

Day 1 South Africa – Cederberg Mountain Region

Leaving Cape Town, there’s one last photo stop at Table View for a spectacular panorama view of Table Mountain. On the way to the Cederberg we visit !Khwa ttu where we enjoy a San guided tour and museum visit. After the tour lunch will be prepared and then we continue to Piketberg for wine tasting at a local wine farm. We arrive at our accommodation and your guides will give you a full briefing on the tour.

Day 2 Namibia – Gariep (Orange) River

Today we travel through the Northern Cape and Namaqualand, stopping at the remote town of Springbok for any last requirements. After crossing the Namibian border we check into the lovely chalets overlooking the river that forms the border between South Africa and Namibia.

Day 3 Gariep (Orange) River – Fish River Canyon

This morning there’s the chance to do an optional canoe down the Gariep River (in the summer) or to spend some time relaxing at the camp along the river. After lunch we travel north to the Fish River Canyon and take a scenic hike along the rim in order to gain some perspective as to just how large this natural phenomenon is.  Later we return to Ai-Ais to check in to our accommodation and enjoy the hot springs.  Optional Activities: Half-Day Canoe Adventure.

Day 4 Namib-Naukluft Park

The Namib-Naukluft NP is one of Namibia’s geographic gems and at 50,000km2, is one of the largest parks in Africa.  There are massive sand dunes in the Sossusvlei desert area as well as the remarkable landscape. Our lodge is situated just outside the park.

Day 5 Namib-Naukluft National Park

We have a full day in the Namib-Naukluft National Park that starts with a walk up Dune 45 for an amazing view and photo opportunity. Later we will have the opportunity to be transported into Sossusvlei.  In the afternoon there is a short walk into Sesriem Canyon. Optional Activities: Transfer to Deadvlei

Day 6/7 Swakopmund

We are joined by an expert local guide for a desert walk.  Exploring on foot, this local guide will share his detailed knowledge of the ecosystem.  Afterwards we cross the Tropic of Capricorn on our way from the Atlantic Coast.  Then it’s on to Swakopmund, the adventure capital of Namibia, where you will be briefed on the many optional activities available. Optional Activities: Dinner Out, Quad biking, Sand boarding, Sky Diving, Scenic Flights etc.

Day 8 Swakopmund – Khorixas

Today we head inland towards Khorixas, stopping en-route at the Brandberg Mountain, a spiritual site of great significance to the San (Bushman).   After a short hike, we will reach The White Lady rock painting.  In the afternoon we will visit the Petrified Forest en route to Khorixas.

Day 9 – Kamanjab – Himba Tribe

We visit a Himba community close to Kamanjab where you will have an opportunity to interact with the people who live there. This is a working village and is only a representation of a larger group of nomadic pastoralists. Visiting the Himba tribe can be a controversial topic that gets discussed at the camp fire, however not so much if the reason for visiting this particular tribe is understood beforehand.

There is a market at the end of your visit, this is a way for the women to establish a small income, used for their own private expenses, and it is up to you whether you’d like to purchase anything or not.

Day 10 – Etosha National Park

Etosha is the venue for some of the most unique game viewing experiences in Africa. The sparse grasslands allow great opportunities to see animals normally hidden in dense vegetation. You may even see some of the amazing animals crossing the road in front of your truck! We will go on various game drives and spend our evenings at the abundant waterholes for some excellent game photography.

Day 11 – Etosha National Park

Today we spend the day game viewing through the Etosha National Park from the comfort of the overland truck.

Day 12 – Windhoek

After an early morning game drive we set off towards Windhoek, the Capital city of Namibia. On the way we stop at a popular craft market where you can barter for handmade gifts to take home. Windhoek is not only the capital; it is also the cultural, social and economic centre of Namibia. On arrival in Windhoek our guide will take us on a short city tour in our truck. Joe’s Beer House is an exciting dining experience for our optional dinner out.

Day 13 – Botswana – Ghanzi 2014

After an early start, we say goodbye to Namibia and cross the Botswana border. Later we arrive at our lodge in Ghanzi and this evening we experience some traditional tribal dancing from the local San community.

Day 14 – Maun – Okavango Delta

Maun is well known as the gateway to the Okavango Delta. We spend one night in Maun and prepare for this Delta excursion. Please pack a small overnight bag for your stay in the Okavango Delta. Small planes transport us over this amazing area to our tented camp.Once in the Delta we take a nature walk with a local expert and a guided afternoon boat cruise. If the water level allows there will also be a traditional mokoro (dug-out canoe) trip.

Day 15 – Okavango Delta

In the morning we board our planes and head into the Delta. After a wonderful scenic flight we arrive at our base for the next two days. During your time in the Delta we enjoy the best nature has to offer. We go on nature walks and explore the Delta by mokoro traditional canoe (water level dependant). The Delta is truly spectacular and an unforgettable experience as the wild animals here are not used to people. Simply sitting and relaxing often results in rewarding bird or game viewing.

Day 16 – Okavango Delta

Today we will continue exploring the Okavango Delta by mokoro (traditional canoe) and a enjoy a nature walk.

Day 17 – Nata

We leave the Delta behind us and travel east towards the town of Nata, near the Makgadikgadi Pans. The shady tree canopy surrounding the lodge is a hive of activity, with a bird feeding area and active water feature providing the bird watcher with the opportunity of viewing a variety of species from the comfort of the pool deck. The Helmeted Guineafowl, Crested Francolin, Yellow Hornbill, Pied and Arrowmarked Babblers, Glossy Starling, Meyers Parrot and Paradise Whydah are just some of the species you may encounter during your stay at the lodge.

Day 18 – Chobe National Park

After continuing north to Kasane, we enjoy a sunset river cruise on the Chobe River (in the National Park) where animals such as hippos, buffalo and elephants are plentiful.

Day 19 – Zimbabwe – Victoria Falls

On arrival in Victoria Falls we have time to plan the next day’s adventure activities before we visit the spectacular Victoria Falls and experience the thundering of the mighty Zambezi as it drops over 100m into the gorge below.

Day 20

Although your tour officially ends after breakfast, most people will spend the day White Water Rafting
