The 4 day Timbavati bush experience offers intimate and thrilling wildlife encounters, award-winning meals and a chance to reconnect with nature in one of Africa’s world-renowned, unspoilt wilderness reserves.

The Timbavati Private Nature Reserve shares an unfenced border with the Kruger National Park. This is true Big Five territory and guests have an opportunity to see lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino on safe, expertly guided game drives and bush walks. The area is also home to more than 40 mammal species and 350 bird species.

Perfect for solo travellers, families, groups of friends, wildlife and photographic enthusiasts.

Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Timbavati Private Nature Reserve

Depart from Johannesburg OR Tambo International Airport or Hoedspruit airport for your transfer to Umlani Bushcamps in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve. This classic safari camp is your home for the next three nights and four days. Well appointed accommodation, excellent facilities and exceptional service ensures you will have a comfortable stay at Umlani.

Day 2: On Safari in theTimbavati Private Nature Reserve

You will be taken out on two game drives per day, in open top Land Rovers. The morning game drive will leave at dawn and the night drive will leave in the late afternoon. There is always a ranger on stand-by for an optional morning bush walk.

During the day you can go on short walks with the ranger after breakfast, or lounge in the double hammocks around the swimming pool sipping your favourite drink. Alternatively, laze away the day in the spacious bush bar and deck overlooking the riverbed and watering hole. For exclusive tranquility there is a tree house about 2.5 kms from the camp overlooking a dam, where  you can enjoy a relaxing  hour or two with blankets and big comfortable pillows as well as a cooler box with drinks.

Day 3: On Safari in theTimbavati Private Nature Reserve

Apart from the wildlife safaris there are some optional daytime activities outside the Timbavati Game Reserve that are accessible from Umlani Bushcamp; these can be pre arranged by your consultant. A transfer service can also be organised to and from the Umlani Bushcamp to any of the following activities.

One hour Microlight flight, early morning balloon safaris, elephant back safaris, TSAU-White lion research & heritage centre, Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, Horse Back Riding. (Daytime activities cost is additional and not included in the total tour price)

End off the day’s activities by retreating to your hut where you can enjoy an open air bush shower before making your way to the traditional boma to be treated to pre dinner drinks around the fire, followed by one of Umlani’s award winning meals in the candlelit dining room, or out in the open riverbed surrounded by flares and cauldron fires.

Day 4: Timbavati Private Nature Reserve transfer to the Airport

Embark on a morning game drive which will leave at dawn and then breakfast. Today you bid farewell to the 4 day Timbavati safari stay at Umlani. You will be transferred to OR Tambo or Hoedspruit for your flight and onward arrangements.

Accommodation

3 nights at Umlani Bush Camp

Umlani Bushcamp in Timbavati accommodates guests in traditional African reed and thatch huts as well as an Eco Rondavel, which all blend naturally with the environment and provide pure comfort.

All accommodation options have en-suite facilities including open-air bush showers for the ultimate stargazing experience. They also offer comfortable beds, crisp white linen, soft towels, mosquito netting, insect repellent and standard bathroom amenities. There is also complimentary bottled water, although the tap water is perfectly safe to drink.

Operating off the grid, each rondavel is discreetly lit by a combination of solar and oil lanterns.

The Umlani philosophy of simplistic luxury and ‘getting back to nature’ is enhanced by the romance of operating without electricity, so each hut and the entire camp is lit by candlelight and oil lamps, providing a warm and magical atmosphere.

Accommodation options include four double huts, five family units and one eco rondavel. This allows us to be flexible with friends and families who would like to share accommodation.

Wildlife

The Kruger National Park is one of South Africa’s greatest tourism draw cards. Home to the Big Five as well as 336 tree, 49 fish, 34 amphibian, 114 reptile, 507 bird and 147 mammal species, the Kruger National Park has become South Africa’s ultimate safari destination. This iconic reserve is visited by half a million tourists every year.

For a genuine African safari experience, many travellers choose to stay in a bushcamp, where they feel at one with nature and are able to enjoy the true peace and tranquillity of this spectacular wilderness area. Umlani Bushcamp is an excellent example of a true Kruger bushcamp.

Children:

Children of all ages are welcome. Children are allowed on game drives as long as accompanied by parent. Babysitting services and baby cots can be
organized if prior notice is given. Supervision at the swimming pool must be pre-arranged as there is no fencing around the swimming pool. Children under
the age of 12 are not allowed on bushwalks due to safety reasons.
