Itinerary

Day 1 – 2: Kruger National Park

Leaving Johannesburg and Pretoria early, you are driven to the town of Nelspruit to meet your fellow travellers. Following a leisurely breakfast, continue your journey together towards the Kruger Park and your first stop for the night, Pretoriuskop Rest Camp.

As soon as you enter the Kruger Park the game viewing begins with a good chance of seeing zebra, impala, giraffe and maybe even a rhino. Arriving at Pretoriuskop you set up camp (this tour has two options: camping or chalet-style accommodation) and after a couple of hours to relax or cool off in the camp swimming pool, set out on a sunset game drive with your experienced Kruger Park guide. Lasting between 3 and 3.5 hours, this drive offers plenty of game viewing opportunities and is a good chance to see nocturnal creatures too – particularly predators!

Spend the next day on a full day’s guided game drive in an open vehicle, great for photography. The second night of your safari you stay in the south-eastern corner of the Kruger at Crocodile Bridge, a smaller camp close to the Mozambican border. This is excellent game viewing territory and one of the best places in the Kruger Park to see the Big 5, so look forward to thrilling wildlife sightings.

Day 3 – 4: Bilene, Mozambique

After breakfast you leave the Kruger Park and make your way to Mozambique and your next stop, Bilene – a small fishing village and idyllic holiday destination surrounded by inland lakes.

Start the next day with a swim in the large salt-water lagoon (an incredible 27 kilometres long) before sitting down to a tasty breakfast. Your guide will organise a boat trip across the lagoon for a guided beach walk and, with a bit of luck, the chance to see the Hawksbill and Green Turtles that live in the area. The rest of the day is yours to do with as you please: relax on the beach, swim in the warm water of the lagoon or stroll through town with its bakery, beach bars, curio shops and colourful local market.

Day 5 – 6: Barra Reef Beach, Mozambique

After waking to the sound of the Indian Ocean and a tasty tropical breakfast, your journey continues north to the town of Inhambane. This sleepy town is set around one of the best markets in Mozambique, and stopping here you have the chance to buy some of the beautiful wooden carvings and woven straw baskets that sit stacked alongside piles of cashew nuts and colourful spices.

From Inhambane it’s just a short drive to the wide, white beaches of the Barra Peninsula, your home for the next two days. Along with its beaches, Barra is famous for its colourful coral reefs and incredible marine life: go snorkelling or diving to see the many species of fish along with the occasional turtle gliding effortlessly by.

Day 7 – 8: Tofo Beach, Mozambique

A short drive takes you from Barra to Tofo Beach, an 8 kilometre stretch of soft white sand with rolling waves and year-round sunshine.

The next two days are spent living the tropical beach life: lazing in the sunshine, swimming in the clear ocean, playing beach volleyball and strolling down to the beach bar for sundowners. A real highlight is the Ocean Safari, organised by your guide and included in the tour. For non-divers this is an excellent chance to see Mozambique’s larger sea creatures and you might even find yourself swimming alongside dolphins, manta rays or whale sharks – a true bucket-list experience!

The rolling waves and warm water of Tofo make it an excellent destination to learn how to surf, so if you’ve always wanted to give it a try then sign up at one of the local surf schools. As for the town itself, it has a small curio and food market that’s worth exploring, and one or two restaurants serving ocean-fresh seafood and a few tasty Mozambican dishes

Day 9: Marloth Park, South Africa

Today you journey back to South Africa bypassing Maputo, the capital city of Mozambique. Once across the border, it’s just a short drive to Marloth Park Wildlife Sanctuary. Marloth Park is situated on the southern boundary of the Kruger Park, and although this is just an overnight stop you are still likely to see a variety of wildlife here such as zebra, kudu, impala and warthog.

Day 10: Return to Johannesburg & Pretoria

After a final breakfast you leave Marloth Park and make your way back to Johannesburg and Pretoria, where the tour comes to an end.

The world-famous Kruger Park delivers one of the best game viewing experiences in Africa. Your safari starts in the south-western region of the park, an area that has a high concentration of black and white rhino, as well as herds of buffalo and elephant. This is also where you’ll find some of the park’s rarer antelope species with small herds of sable, eland and Lichtenstein’s hartebeest.

The second night of your safari is spent in the south-eastern corner of the Kruger Park, a region known for excellent big game viewing! Giraffe, zebra and several antelope species are usually seen within a few hundred metres of the gate of Crocodile Bridge camp, and hyenas patrol the fence every night. If you’re lucky you’ll see the park’s big cats here too as lion, cheetah and even the elusive leopard are all regularly recorded in the area, making it one of the best places to see the Big 5.

The reefs off Barra and Tofo are known the world over for their rich marine life. Along with a colourful collection of reef fish and frequent sightings of loggerhead turtles the main attraction here is the whale sharks and manta rays – both of which are seen throughout the year. Tofo is one of the best places to swim with whale sharks while divers are sure to love Manta Reef which has three manta cleaning stations allowing for close-up sightings of these magnificent creatures.

Itinerary

Day 1 – 3 Cape Town

On arrival at Cape Town International Airport you’ll be met and transferred to the elegant Cape Grace hotel in one of Cape Town’s top locations: a private quay at the V&A Waterfront.

The Cape Grace hotel offers a complimentary chauffeur service to anywhere within a 10km drive of the hotel; this includes the famous beaches of Camps Bay and Clifton, Cape Town’s vibrant city centre and the cable station at the foot of Table Mountain. Alternatively, Krugerpark.com can organise private tours, car hire or daytrips around the magnificent Cape Peninsula or out to the pretty little Cape Winelands towns of Franschhoek and Stellenbosch.

There’s so much to see and do in Cape Town, little wonder that the New York Times made it number one in their list of: “Places to go in 2014”.

Day 4 – 7 Kruger National Park

Leaving Cape Town you fly direct to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, followed by a short charter flight to the luxurious Singita Lebombo, found in a private concession of the Kruger Park.

This area of the Kruger is well known for exceptional wildlife viewing, and over the next few days you are likely to see all of Africa’s Big 5 including the area’s famously large prides of lion. Between game drives relax in the understated luxury of your glass-walled suite or stretch out on the shaded daybed of your private deck, looking out for hippo and elephant at the river below.

Finally, everyone who’s been to Lebombo can’t help but comment on the high quality of their food and their incredible selection of wine – Singita is recognised as one of Africa’s most influential wine collectors, and has received numerous awards and accolades.

Day 8 African Pride Irene Country Lodge, Pretoria

Today you fly to Johannesburg and with a short transfer to Pretoria, where you’ll spend the night at the African Pride Irene Country Hotel.

Nestling in Irene, the African Pride Irene Country Lodge is centrally located between Johannesburg and Pretoria, and a mere twenty-five minute drive from OR Tambo International Airport. The area has a rich cultural heritage and many national leaders and historic figures have left their mark in Irene.

Enjoy an overnight stop at this welcoming hotel with lakeside views that rival most paintings, African Pride Irene Country Lodge is a luxury upmarket hotel with spacious, luxury accommodation, a fine dining restaurant, conference, function and wedding venues, and also boasts a spa.

Day 9 – 12 Rovos Rail (Pretoria to Victoria Falls)

After breakfast you’re taken to the Rovos Rail station where you climb about the most luxurious train in the world, and travel to thundering Victoria Falls in true old-world style.

This four-day adventure includes journeying alongside the Magaliesberg Mountains; on into Botswana through the capital Gaborone, crossing the Tropic of Capricorn; then into Zimbabwe, passing through Hwange National Park (where wildlife can be spotted on your scheduled game drive), and finally arriving at Victoria Falls where you will be transferred to the Royal Livingstone Hotel.

Travelling aboard Rovos Rail is a truly special experience that recaptures the romance of luxury rail travel. In the evening prepare to dress for dinner – a lavish four-course affair with white-gloved service, while afternoons can be spent chatting to your fellow travellers in the observation carriage with its plush leather armchairs and unique open-air balcony.

Day 13 – 14 Victoria Falls

Staying at the Royal Livingstone Hotel puts you within easy walking distance of the Zambian side of Victoria Falls. This elegant hotel lies on the Zambezi riverbank just upstream of the falls and has a fantastic sundeck with views of the spray rising up from “The Smoke That Thunders”, Victoria Falls.

Go on a walking tour around Victoria Falls – across the Knife-Edge Bridge and down into the Boiling Pot – then choose from the many other activities on offer in the area: sunset cruises, a helicopter flip over the falls, elephant-back safaris or simply a relaxing treatment in The Royal Zambezi’s tented gazebos right on the riverbank.

Day 15

After one last breakfast out on the shaded verandah of The Royal Livingstone Hotel, it’s time for your transfer to Livingstone Airport to catch your outbound flight.

This area has a high density of all of the Big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo) with excellent big cat sightings including cheetah, leopard and four particularly formidable prides of lion.

Although the Victoria Falls is not seen as a safari destination, you are likely to see plenty of wildlife during your stay here including hippo in the Zambezi River, and warthog and giraffe roaming the grounds of the Royal Livingstone Hotel. We’d also recommend a daytrip from Victoria Falls to Chobe National Park to see its famous elephant herds.

Staying at The Cape Grace you’ll be in the popular V&A Waterfront with its fantastic selection of restaurants, world-class aquarium, and ferries to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years.

Other attractions close to the Waterfront include the white-sand beaches of Camps Bay and Clifton; the museums, cafes and markets of the colourful city centre; and the cable car to the top of Table Mountain. Further afield we’d recommend the penguin colony at Boulders Beach (fantastic for families), Cape Point’s rugged cliffs (wild walks and ocean views), and Kirstenbosch Gardens (the Cape’s unique fynbos set against a spectacular mountain backdrop).

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at Kruger National Park

We depart from Johannesburg between 06h00 – 07h30 to allow for various collection points. Our route takes us through the wide open spaces of the Highveld, down the escarpment and through the scenic Lowveld area. We stop for lunch en-route (own expense) and reach the Kruger National Park and Skukuza Rest Camp in the afternoon.

After settling in to our accommodations (twin bed chalets with en suite bathrooms), you go out on your first game drive.

Dinner is a three course meal, served al fresco at our private camp within Skukuza. Wine is served with dinner but guests are welcome to bring along additional / alternative drinks which can be purchased at the shop.

Day 2: Game Drives & the Kruger Park

Safaris are all about early mornings, getting out there and seeing animals! The time you go on your Game Drive varies according to the seasons and camp gate opening times. We have tea or coffee with muffins and fruit before departing on the Game Drive which will take approximately 3-4 hours. Your guide has an intimate knowledge of the park, which contributes a great deal towards brilliant sightings!

On returning to Skukuza brunch will be ready at our camp. You then have time to enjoy a swim, visit the Skukuza museum, visit the park shop which includes African curios, general food items and drinks, take a walk around the camp, or simply relax at the viewing platform in front of the restaurant, which overlooks the Sabie River. Be sure to bring your binoculars, Skukuza Rest Camp is also a bird watcher’s paradise!
After a siesta we set off on the afternoon Kruger Park game drive. We conduct all our game drives in specially adapted 4×4 open game drive vehicles to allow our guests the best possible vantage point.
We share African safari stories at the camp fire under the stars after a scrumptious dinner served at our camp.
(Breakfast & Dinner included)

Day 3: Kruger Park to Private Game Reserve

After an early wake up you will go on a final morning game drive- The time you go on your Game Drive varies according to the seasons and camp gate opening times. We have tea or coffee with muffins and fruit before departing on the Game Drive which will take approximately 3-4 hours. Your guide has an intimate knowledge of the park, which contributes a great deal towards brilliant sightings!

Directly after breakfast at our camp we head to one of the world renowned Private Game Reserves adjacent to Kruger National Park in our closed, air conditioned tour vehicle. We arrive in time for lunch and have some time to freshen up before departing on your afternoon game drive in one of the Luxury Game Lodge’s open game drive vehicles. This drive generally takes about 4 hours and extends into the early evening. Private Reserves are particularly famous for its close-up sightings of predators. We cannot guarantee these sightings, however your chances of seeing these magnificent animals are very good!

Animals and birds in the reserve have become used to having the game drive vehicles in close proximity due to a carefully planned and managed habituation process. This allows us to get really close to them and forms part of the appeal of the Luxury Lodge Safari!

Guests are welcome to join the morning bush walk after breakfast. The rest of the day is spent at leisure, relaxing in your room or at the pool. Lunch is served around 14h00.

Itinerary

Day 1

• Rhino Post Safari Lodge serves as the meeting point for day one, and guests are requested to arrive no later than 2PM in order to make a speedy transfer to Plains Camp in the open 4 x 4. Guests travelling from Johannesburg are advised to have departed by 7AM at the latest in order to make good time

• After arriving, guests are afforded a short window in which to explore the camp itself. High tea is served, followed by a brief on bush walking safari ‘do’s & don’t’s’, conducted by the lodge’s expert guides

• Following this, a pair of armed rangers escort guests on their introductory walk, later returning to sundowners and a short night drive

Day 2

• The early morning wake up call is softened with coffee, tea and rusks, before the group departs again for the next walk. Guides take to sharing their extensive understanding of the area and its culture, identifying animals, trees, grasses, insects, birds, the medicinal uses of plants, local folk lore and basic tracking and survival skills. In order to avoid the midday heat, the three to four hour walks are conducted almost exclusively in the early mornings and late afternoons

• After a light snack on the walk, guests settle into brunch back at camp. Spend the hot hours in between walks enjoying the camp’s Africana book collection, or cool off in the plunge pool while watching the regular passage of zebra, buffalo, giraffe, elephant, rhino and lion. The afternoon safari ends with the group setting up camp on a set of raised platforms, and sleeping underneath the stars for the evening. Dinner is prepared on an open fire while guests watch as wildlife congregate around the watering hole.

Day 3

• Day three follows a similar format to that of the previous days, however, following high tea, the group sets off to an exciting new camping venue at which they will spend the night. Setting up camp on a series of raised platforms, the group will spend the night sleeping underneath the stars, dinner being prepared on an open fire while they watch wildlife congregate around the watering hole.

Day 4

• Light snacks are served before the group heads back to Plains Camp

• Brunch is followed by a chance to grab a shower, before packing up and transferring back to Rhino Post Safari Lodge

• Refreshments are served upon arrival, followed by brief introductions to the lodge. Guests are then escorted to their rooms

• After settling in, guests are invited to high tea, and then an afternoon / evening game drive

• Sundowner drinks are enjoyed under a reddening African sky before setting back off into the night to spot some of the nocturnal residents

• Dinner and conversation are enjoyed on the deck back at the lodge before guests retire for the evening

Day 5

• Another early start to the day, with rusks, coffee and tea, and guests are off, once more, to explore the park

• After returning, guests settle into brunch back at camp, before spending some time enjoying the camp grounds and facilities. High tea is followed by the afternoon safari, the evening winding down with a warm dinner before guests head off to bed

Day 6

• Guests will be woken up early for the last time on their trip, served fresh coffee or tea and muffins in the lounge, and set off again for an early morning game drive, with a being made stop midway for coffee or tea in the bush

• Brunch is served upon return to the lodge

Itinerary

Day 1: Kruger National Park

We depart from Johannesburg between 06h00 – 08h00 to allow for various collection points. (**Safari Pick up’s and drop off’s available from the following destinations: Johannesburg, Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, Skukuza, prices will vary**).

After settling in to your accommodations, you go out on your first game drive which is a SAN PARKS sunset drive. A sunset drive affords you the opportunity to see nocturnal animals that are more active at night and the Park’s rangers are allowed to return after the normal gate closing times. Note that these drives take place in one of the Kruger Park’s vehicles with a Park’s ranger. This is not a private game drive and there may be other guests on this drive. (Children under 6 years of age are not permitted on open vehicle drives.)

Dinner is a three course meal, served al fresco at your base camp. Wine is served with dinner but guests are welcome to bring along additional / alternative drinks which can be purchased at the shop.

Day 2-5: Game drives and activities in the Park

Safaris are all about early mornings, getting out there and seeing animals! The time you go on your Game Drive varies according to the seasons and camp gate opening times. Tea and cofffee is served with muffins and fruit before departing on the Game Drive which will take approximately 3-4 hours. Your guide has an intimate knowledge of the park, which contributes a great deal towards brilliant sightings!
On returning to camp, brunch will be ready.

You then have time to enjoy a swim, catch up on some sleep, visit the park shop which includes African curios, general food items and drinks, take a walk around the camp, or simply relax! Be sure to bring along your binoculars!

After a siesta we set off on the afternoon Kruger Park game drive. We conduct all our game drives in specially adapted 4×4 open game drive vehicles to allow you the best possible vantage point.

Share African safari stories at the camp fire under the stars after a scrumptious dinner served at camp.
(Breakfast & Dinner included)

Day 6

The final day of your Kruger Park Safari will be your last chance to see the Big Five Animals that have eluded you thus far. After breakfast you will be transferred to your chosen destination (Johannesburg, Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, Skukuza)

Optional Excursion (free of charge)

An opitional excursion (free of charge) is offered to visit select attractions along the Panorama Route. You will enjoy breakfast in camp at 07h30, depart from camp at 08h15 and visit attractions such as the Blyde River Canyon, Three Rondavels, Lisbon Waterfalls and God’s Window. Stop in one of the small towns en-route for lunch (lunch is excluded from the price). Arrive back at camp between 17h00 and 18h00. This excursion is available free of charge, replaces your game drives for the day and will be co-ordinated while you are on safari. (Kindly note that this excursion is not available on the first or last day of your Safari due to time constrictions)

Accommodation

Skukuza is the headquarters of the Kruger Park and has become a little town in the middle of the bush. Its 1400 residents and thousands of daily visitors enjoy wonderful views through Sycamore Figs and Natal Mahoganies. Skukuza Rest Camp is situated on the southern banks of the Sabie River. The camp is well foliaged and there are some lofty trees along the river’s edge. Activities and facilities are diverse, as are the animals and plants found both within the camp and in the surrounding areas. It features a variety of accommodation options such as camp sites, 21 furnished safari tents, semi luxury bungalows, cottages and 4 guesthouses. It also features a doctor, a shop with an impressive bronze statue outside, a bank, a post office, a library, a museum, a restaurant and a cafeteria with decks that overlook the river.

Accommodation consists of twin bed (2 single beds), air conditioned, ensuite accommodation. There are no double beds available in this accommodation category. Family or 3 bed chalets are available on request. Please discuss your requirements with your consultant. Linen, towels and soap are provided. Your chalet does have a few power points, but adapters are not included. Your chalet does not include a safe, but you do have a key to lock your chalet when leaving. Hairdryer and mosquito nets are not included. We find that mosquitoes are not a problem in your chalet at night, as the doors and windows have mosquito meshing which prevents mosquitoes from entering your chalet, if they are kept closed. There are no Wi-Fi facilities at your chalet. The solution to this would be to purchase “pay as you go” data for a local sim card, when you arrive in South Africa. Vodacom seems to have the best coverage in the Kruger Park, although it is patchy and not always reliable.

Important Notes:

On safari, you will be accommodated inside the Kruger National Park and do not stay outside the Kruger, unless forced to do so because of availability.

Classic Kruger Safaris make use of twin bed (2 single beds), air conditioned, ensuite accommodation. There are no double beds available in this accommodation category. Family or 3 bed chalets are available on request. Please discuss your requirements with your consultant. Linen, towels and soap are provided.

It is important to note that this is not a private safari and more than likely there will be other guests joining you on the game drive vehicles, air-conditioned mini bus transfer vehicles as well as in the dining facility.

Please note that sunset game drive times are subject to change and availability on the day. These drives are conducted by SAN PARKS, by one of their rangers and in one of their vehicles. There will most likely be other guests on this drive. Children under 6 years of age are not allowed on SAN Parks open game drive vehicles.

Although children are welcome on safaris, we reserve the right not to allow younger children on normal game drives. This will be entirely up to the guide’s discretion and will be in order to ensure a pleasurable game drive for all guests (including the parents). Should this be the case, a bush bumble (kiddies game drive) will be conducted after the normal game drive, especially for the kids. Babysitting is not offered and as such one of the parents will have to stay behind to watch the children. Private game drives for families can be arranged at an extra charge.

Guests flying out of OR Tambo Airport on the last day are reminded to not book any flights earlier than 19h00 (domestic) or 20h00 (international) in order to allow for time to get to the airport. We recommend that you rather stay over in Johannesburg if possible. Since we cannot guarantee the arrival time in Johannesburg on the last day we will not be held responsible for reimbursements of flight tickets, should we arrive later than expected. Guests flying out of Nelspruit on the last day may, depending on their flight details, not have enough time to see the Panorama Route. Private transfers for guests with early flights can be arranged in advance at an extra charge.

Itinerary

Dinner is prepared on an open fire while guests watch as wildlife congregate around the watering hole

Day 3

• Light snacks are served before the group heads back to Plains Camp

• Brunch is followed by the chance to grab a shower, before packing up and transferring back to Rhino Post Safari Lodge
