The Kingdom at Victoria Falls is a 4 star themed resort, situated within the Victoria Falls National Park, a World Heritage Site, and the Zambezi National Park. The resort draws its architectural inspiration from one of the timeless legends of Africa, the great and mystifying Great Zimbabwe Ruins. It is centred on a man-made lake and has a variety of rooms including twin rooms, double rooms, family rooms and suites. With towering domes and a host of water features, the complex complements the atmosphere of one of the iconic spectacles of Africa. With wonderful landscaped features, including three relaxing swimming pools and a kiddie’s pool, guests can enjoy the luxury while being only a short walk from the Falls.

Accommodation

The resort is large, with 294 rooms ranging from suites to double rooms with king-size beds and family rooms. Many of the rooms have balconies with views over either the lake or the African bush. They are tastefully decorated and are all air-conditioned. En suite bathrooms have both showers and baths. Digital satellite TV and tea and coffee making facilities are also provided. Wi-Fi facilities are available. Paraplegic rooms are also available for diasabled guests.

Wildlife

Situated in one of the most famous World Heritage Sites, the Victoria Falls and Zambezi National Park is home to the full spectrum of African wildlife, including lions, rhinos and leopards, and the majestic Sable antelope. The short, five-minute walk from the resort to the Falls provides an opportunity to see some of the smaller species. One of the unique features of the area is the rainforest with its endemic vegetation that thrives on the mist generated by the Falls.

The rich birdlife includes a wide range of waterbirds along the river above the Falls, and birds such as Heuglin’s robin, Knysna turaco, and trumpeter hornbill in the Falls rainforest area.

Accommodation

The Elephant Hills Resort offers 276 luxury rooms, 11 executive suites, a deluxe suite and a presidential suite. All rooms are luxurious, with air-conditioning, mini-bars, satellite television, safes, and tea and coffee making stations.

Each room has a private balcony: rooms in the west wing have an impressive view of the Zambezi River, while guests in the east wing have views over the golf course to the Zambezi, glimmering in the distance. A selection of rooms offers a breath-taking view of the Smoke that Thunders. Indoor, manmade waterfalls and lush greenery bring the rumble of falls within the walls of the hotel.

The hotel is family friendly: many of the rooms have inter-connecting doors. Each room accommodates two guests. The resort is also disabled-friendly, with lifts on all floors and two rooms especially equipped for disabled guests.

Wildlife

Guests at Elephant Hills can view game such as impala, warthog, monkeys and baboons while they play a round of golf or amble around the grounds. The resort can arrange day and night game drives in the National Park, which is home to the Big Five, or a Lion Walk in the nearby reserve. The charmingly rustic Lokuthula offers 37 luxury thatched chalets all with a fully equipped self-catering kitchen as well as a lounge/dining area. Ndebele-inspired décor adds a vibrant African flair to the chalets and the careful positioning of each chalet within the mature wooded gardens affords guests spectacular views of the surrounding bushveld. The split-level chalets have canvas drop-down blinds, allowing guests to view game from the privacy of their own accommodation. There are 26 two-bed roomed and 11 three-bed roomed chalets, which sleep six and eight respectively.

The two bedroom lodges offer an en-suite double room, and an upstairs twin room with a separate bathroom. The two couches in the lounge can convert to beds to cater for a maximum of six adults.

Wildlife

Lokuthula is surrounded by 800 square kilometres of bushveld and borders the unfenced Zambezi National Park. The nearby waterhole is frequented by wildlife including buffalo, elephant, hyena and a variety of plains game.

Lokuthula can arrange game drives or bush walks in Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park. This park is home to zebra, giraffe, warthog, a variety of antelope species, as well as the only Rhino in Zambia. Elephants roam freely through the park and the surrounding area.

Over 600 species of birds are found in the region. The best birding location is along the Zambezi River, upstream from the Falls and in the rain forest section of the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park. Specialities include Bradfield’s hornbill, marabou storks, the iconic African fish eagle, Verreauxs’ eagle, paradise flycatcher, and lilac-breasted roller.

Accommodation

The spacious tents are split in three sections, separated by large sliding doors. All the tents are beautifully decorated in a classic African-style, creating an authentic safari ambience. Each tent offers a large bathtub, an indoor and outdoor shower, and a separate comfortable lounge area.

From their secluded viewing deck and private plunge pool, guests may gaze out across the bush and down to the Batoka Gorge and the “smoke” rising up from the Victoria Falls.

Wildlife

Elephants are most definitely the centre of attention at Elephant Camp. The camp offers guests the opportunity to interact with the elephants at the Wild Horizons Wildlife Sanctuary, which focuses on the care and maintenance of orphaned elephants. Resident wildlife is likely to wander through the lodge grounds at any time.

Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park is home to the only rhinos in Zambia, zebra, giraffe, warthog and a variety of antelope species. A game drive along the Zambezi River promises pods of hippo wallowing in the shallows and crocodiles basking on the Zambezi River bank.

Over 600 species of birds are found in the region. Wildlife

Chobe National Park offers abundant and diverse wildlife. It is home to the largest concentration of elephant in Africa. During the dry season large herds of both elephant and buffalo congregate along the fertile flood plains of the Chobe River. The park is home to the Big Five, along with wild dogs, cheetahs, hippos and crocodiles. Magnificent sightings of puku, sable, giraffe and roan antelope, as well as the rare aquatic Red Lechwe and the indigenous Chobe Bushbuck, are frequent.

The area is rich in birdlife, offering over 450 species. The backwaters, channels and grasslands of the floodplains offer a huge diversity of wetland birds, including herons, storks, ibis, wildfowl and crakes. For the serious birder, there are many rare species, including Olive woodpeckers, Schalow’s turacos, Emerald cuckoos, River warblers, Half-collared kingfisher, Rock pratincoles, Pel’s fishing owls, Pygmy geese, and African skimmers.
