Sabi Sands Game Reserve, regarded by many as the “birthplace” of sustainable wilderness tourism and development in Sub-Saharan Africa, is understood by guests and staff to be a place of wilderness, wildlife and adventure. Lion Sands Narina Lodge is located among a canopy of 100 year old trees overlooking the Sabie River within the world famous Kruger National Park, the style of Narina is that of a luxurious treehouse, where the main areas link to the 9 private Suites via raised wooden walkways. The thick green foliage beneath the overhanging roof of trees has a particular sound to it.

Lion Sands Kruger National Park is one of only seven private concessions in the Kruger National Park. A 5,000 hectare (12,500 acre) private concession with the highest concentration of Black Rhino (Diceros bicornis) in South Africa. Wildlife

The preserved plains of the Sabi Sands and the Kruger National Park hold one of highest concentrations of game per hectare on the planet. This, coupled with ethical and responsible conservation management, have resulted in animals which are highly habituated to human presence. The landrovers pose no threat, and guests on game drives are able to get really close to countless animal species (including predators, general game, reptiles, insects, and birds-a-plenty).

Wildlife

Guests hoping to spot wildlife in between enjoying the luxury accommodation of Ulusaba are in for a treat, as this are is home to the Fig Five, cheetah, wild dogs, more passive wildlife such as the leopard tortoise and ant lion, a host of brightly coloured and fantastic birds.

Overview

In the early 1900s, James Stevenson-Hamilton was appointed as the first warden of the Sabi Nature Reserve. His first order of business was to announce that no shooting was to be allowed, believing that if animals were free to live in the veld, as they were before the arrival of man, they would flock to the area and lose their fear of humans. This was the start of 44 years of service to the game reserve, now known as the Kruger National Park, which today is one of the largest and most bio diverse game reserves on the African continent.

Hamilton’s Tented Camp pays tribute to this man. The camp, located in the Imbali concession, reflects the grace and elegance of a bygone era, epitomising the tradition of the luxurious African safari. The spacious and sumptuous lodge reflects the style of the 20th century African safari adventure, offering unparalleled service and attention to all guests.

Accommodation

The intimate Hamilton’s Tented Camp offers six splendid canvas tents, all of which are en-suite with romantic, elegant slipper baths and outdoor showers overlooking the river. King-size canopy beds, lavishly draped in mosquito netting, are dressed in crisp white linens, and private verandahs offer magnificent views of the Ngwenyeni dam. Raised timber walkways meander beneath ancient Jackalberry trees and link the tents to the main lodge.

Wildlife

The Kruger National Park boasts a huge biodiversity in both its plant and animal life. The Big Five live here, as well as many cheetah, elephant, hippopotamus, spotted hyena, wild dog, and zebra

The Hamilton’s lion pride frequents the Ngwenyeni Dam, and is usually spotted in the immediate lodge surrounds. The high density of leopards in the area ensures regular sightings of these shy nocturnal predators.

The region is a paradise for bird-watchers, boasting more than 500 species. The diversity of habitats in the reserve results in a rich diversity of species, including the renowned ‘Big Six’ namely Ground hornbill, Martial eagle, Saddle-billed stork, Pel’s fishing owl, Kori bustard and Lappet faced vulture.

Sabi Sabi Bush Lodge plays the role of the Sabi Sabi Game Reserve’s flagship establishment, and as such bears a strong history of hosting some of the reserve’s most famous guests. Bolstered by a pair of expansive decks, overlooking the brush spattered surrounds leading all the way up to the area’s popular watering holes, Bush Lodge is an ideal bush retreat. The evening brings with it star dusted skies overarching a fire lit boma, as the sound of laughter and tales of adventure is met by yelps and rustling from the bush.

Accommodation at the Bush Lodge is made up of twenty-five thatched suites, featuring air conditioning, private decks, en-suite bathrooms, outdoor and glass-fronted indoor showers.

Mandleve Suite is the lodge’s ultra-luxury, romantic honeymoon suite, and incorporates an open plan living area, generous bathroom and outdoor shower, private plunge pool, air conditioning, and private viewing decks with majestic sweeps of the area laid out before them.
In addition, the Bush Lodge features two new Luxury Villas, which offer travellers exquisite accommodation consisting of two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a lounge and library, a dressing room as well as a patio and pool.  These villas are extraordinarily expansive, architecturally attractive and stunningly decorated in the eclectic Bush Lodge style.

A huge master bedroom with king sized draped four-poster bed leads onto an en-suite bathroom complete with indoor and outdoor shower and his & her baths. A second bedroom which leads into a private bathroom featuring a big bath and open ‘rain’ shower. Both bedrooms and the lounge open out onto an enormous reed-covered patio, which includes a private plunge pool. Londolozi Game Reserve, a sub-section to the greater Sabi Sand Game Reserve, is geared towards luxury and exclusivity. Spanning an area of 14 000 hectares, along the western border of the Kruger National Park, and created by brothers and wildlife conservationists Dave and John Varty, Londolozi has also become known internationally as a place dedicated to the principals of eco tourism.

Owing its name to the Zulu term for “protector of all things”, Londolozi endeavours to incorporate this ethic into all their operations and projects. Considered a “predator’s paradise”, the area is made famous by its impressive leopard population, as well as a host of other wild animals and grand flora.

Varty Camp is a riverside masterpiece, a stunning collection of exclusive chalets positioned at intervals around the riverside bush that makes Londolozi so famous. Guests enjoy the crisp morning air and wonderful service of this charming camp, as well as the excitement and adventure of nearby bush drives, walks, and other excursions.

The Londolozi Cubs program ensures that every day is filled with fun and fascination, and our ‘young rangers’ gain far more than just an understanding of their role in managing and conserving Africa’s incredible biodiversity. At Londolozi, children learn about themselves, about other cultures, about building friendships and trust, and about survival in the wilderness. They are introduced to a world rich in confidence and wonder – and a lot of fun!

Varty Camp provides accommodation in eight luxury, and two superior, chalets, with private swimming pools, and raised living areas, air conditioning, private plunge pools, vaulteed guest areas and leisure decks.

Wildlife

Big Five sightings are plentiful at Londolozi, with the park specializing in Leopard sightings! The animals have been entirely normalised to the presence of vehicles and onlookers, and thus go about their hunting within clicking range of eager wildlife photographers. Lion and hyena are also tracked daily.

Impala, common waterbuck, grey duiker, kudu, bushbuck and nyala all roam the area freely, alongside buffalo herds, elephant, white rhino, giraffe, and warthog. The ever present Sand River plays home to Cape Clawless Otter and hippo groups, and guests can spot the white-tailed mongoose, African civet and large-spotted genet on a night time safari.

303 bird species call this area home, including white-crested helmetshrike, lilac-breasted roller, brown-headed parrot, emerald-spotted dove and scarlet-chested sunbird, woodland kingfisher, red-chested cuckoo, Wahlberg’s eagle and Crested francolin. Saddle-billed stork, grey heron and pied kingfisher gather around the park’s waterholes.

Wildlife

Wildlife indigenous to the Sabi Sabi Game Reserve area includes Cape buffalo, elephant, Reedbuck, spotted hyena, cheetah, giraffe, Burchell’s zebra, Black-backed jackal, duiker, hippopotamus, impala, kudu, leopard, lion, warthog, white rhinoceros, white-tailed mongoose, and Wild dog, as well as a bird watcher’s wildest dream in the surrounding park’s extensive bird population.

Overview

Kapama Karula Lodge – resting on the banks of the rushing Klaserie River, and comprised of a exclusive suites, is named “the place of peace”, owing to its riverine atmosphere and soothing accommodation. Accommodation

Exclusive suites are equipped with luxury bathrooms, glass sliding doors that wrap around the suite for a unrestricted view of the Klaserie River. His and hers basins, indoor and outdoor showers, air conditioning, lounge and dining room, pooldeck and private pool, private bar, and tea and coffee making facilities.

There are two purpose-built superior suites for families. At 170m², these family suites have an open-plan living room, replete with fireplace, which flows into the master bedroom with its en-suite bathroom. The second bedroom leads off the living room and can be accessed through an interleading door or its own entrance. This children’s bedroom is also en-suite and is equipped with a flat-screen TV, selection of movies and a Wii game console. All other amenities are included – from well-stocked minibars including a selection of wines and champagne, to Nespresso coffee machines, air conditioning, overhead fans, telephones, Wi-Fi and an iPod docking station. Each family suite has a private outside deck and a large heated swimming pool for year-round swimming.
